Introduction

Lady Namjung (Chinese: 娜木鐘; Manchu: ᠨᠠᠮ ᠵᡠᠩ), who died in 1674, was a member of the Abaga Borjigit clan and held the title of Noble Consort Yijing (懿靖貴妃) during her lifetime. She was originally a Mongol woman from Inner Mongolia, belonging to the prominent Abaga Borjigit clan. Her father was Prince Abagai of the Second Rank (阿霸垓郡王). She had at least two sisters; one married Sereng Erdeni, and the other, named Ahai (阿海), married Chechen Han Sholei (碩壘).

Her personal name was Namjung (娜木鐘). It is not documented when she initially became a consort of Ligden Khan, Khagan of the Northern Yuan Dynasty. Ligden Khan's era saw her initially holding the title of Primary Consort Duoluo, which was later changed to Primary Consort Nangnang (囊囊福晉). Ligden Khan died in 1634. In 1635, she gave birth to his son, Abunai (阿布奈), who later became Prince Chahar of the First Rank. There is also some indication that she may have had a daughter, as records mention her raising a Mongolian woman after she became a consort of Hong Taiji.

Following Ligden Khan's death, Lady Namjung married Hong Taiji, the Emperor of the Qing dynasty. She was conferred the title of Noble Consort and resided in Linzhi Palace (麟趾宮), part of the Qingning Palace within the Shenyang Imperial Palace. On April 30, 1636, she gave birth to Hong Taiji’s 11th daughter, Princess Duanshun of the First Rank. She also bore another son, Bomubogor, on January 20, 1642.

Lady Namjung passed away in 1674. At her death, she was awarded the title of Noble Consort Yijing (懿靖貴妃). She was buried at Zhaoling Garden (清昭陵).

Her titles evolved over her lifetime, corresponding to different reigns and statuses. During the reign of Buyan Sechen Khan (1592–1604), she was known as Lady Abaga Borjigit (博爾濟吉特氏). Under Ligden Khutugtu Khan (r. 1604–1634), she held titles of Primary Consort Duoluo and Primary Consort Nangnang. During Hong Taiji’s reign (r. 1636–1643), she was titled Noble Consort and later posthumously honored as Noble Consort Yijing after her death.

Her issue includes:

- As Primary Consort Nangnang:

- Shuchai (淑侪), possibly Ligden Khan’s daughter

- Abunai (阿布奈; 1635–1675), Prince Chahar of the First Rank, Ligden Khan’s second son

- As Noble Consort:

- Princess Duanshun of the First Rank (30 April 1636 – July/August 1650), Hong Taiji’s 11th daughter

- Bomubogor (20 January 1642 – 22 August 1656), Hong Taiji’s 11th son

Her life intersected with significant figures of the late Ming and early Qing periods, and her familial relationships linked her to notable political and military alliances of the era.
