Xi Qianping is the daughter of Xi Zhongxun, a proletarian revolutionary, statesman, and one of the important leaders of the Chinese Communist Party and the state. Before the Cultural Revolution, she graduated from the China Foreign Affairs University, majoring in French, and was assigned to work at the International Business Daily.
In the early 1980s, when Wang Guangying was establishing China Everbright Group, he intended to transfer her there. Xi Zhongxun firmly declined, stressing that as the daughter of a senior leader, she should avoid suspicion, telling her to “keep a low profile.” Xi Qianping continued her work at International Business Daily and later had several opportunities to travel abroad for professional reasons, which was rare at the time.
Her father, however, was strict, questioning the necessity of her frequent trips and warning her not to use “work needs” as an excuse for personal gain. Under his stern guidance, Xi Qianping promised to work diligently and prove her ability through substance rather than privilege. Her experiences reflected Xi Zhongxun’s strong family values of discipline, integrity, and modesty.
