Introduction
Li Dengqin (February 19, 1921 – February 15, 1945), known in Japanese as Iwasato Takenori (岩里 武则 / いわさと たけのり), was born in the Putingkeng settlement of Sanzi Township, Tamsui District, Taipei Prefecture, Taiwan under Japanese rule (now Pupingli, Sanzhi District, New Taipei City, Taiwan). He was the elder brother of former Republic of China President Lee Teng-hui. After the outbreak of World War II, he enlisted in the Imperial Japanese Navy as a Taiwanese soldier and was killed in the Battle of Manila at the age of 23. His spirit tablet is enshrined at Yasukuni Shrine.
