Rong Kangxin, born into the Rong family of Wuxi, is the eldest son of Rong Zhihuan and grandson of Rong Hongqing. The Rong family has played an important historical role in the development of modern industry and commerce in China; his great-grandfather Rong Zongjing and Rong Desheng were renowned industrialists. The third generation family member, Rong Zhihuan, served as Vice Managing Director of the Nanyang Group and Chairman of the Shanghai Commercial Bank. As a descendant of Rong Zhihuan, Rong Kangxin inherited the family's business influence and social prominence.

Rong Kangxin holds the position of Non-Executive Director at Nanyang Group and is also a Standing Director and Chief Information Officer of the Shanghai Commercial Bank (also known as Shanghai Commercial Savings Bank). He participates in the family’s banking affairs across Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Mainland China. As of 2024, he and his father Rong Zhihuan jointly hold nearly 20% of shares in Shanghai Commercial Savings Bank. In corporate management, he is involved in the bank’s daily operations and strategic planning.

In the fields of education and philanthropy, Rong Kangxin has co-established the Jiangnan University Scholarship with his grandfather Rong Hongqing and father Rong Zhihuan since the 1990s, continuing this effort for over thirty years. This initiative has set a precedent for three generations studying at the same university and has been recognized by the university. During a visit in 2024, Jiangnan University expressed special gratitude to the Rong family for their contributions and discussed future student exchange programs, including a student visit project with the University of Chicago.

In public affairs, Rong Kangxin has been involved in educational donations since 2017. In January 2024, he visited Jiangnan University as a member of the Hong Kong and Macau Political Consultative Conference, promoting cooperation in Cambodian food deep processing and the research of Rong family historical materials. He is a member of the 12th and 13th Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, actively participating in proposal work as of October 2024, earning multiple awards for excellent proposals and recognition as an outstanding CPPCC member.

Regarding his family background, Rong Kangxin was born into the Rong family of Wuxi, a core member of the family’s modern manufacturing and financial enterprises in China. His grandfather Rong Hongqing and father Rong Zhihuan have played key roles in the family’s business endeavors, with the family holding an important position in regional economic development. Through his activities in business and public welfare, Rong Kangxin continues the family’s tradition of commerce and social responsibility.
