Jingzhou Wei

Wei Jingzhou was born into a business family; his father Wei Shigong works in the curtain business. In his early years he leveraged his sensitivity to numbers to work in auditing, and later returned to the family business, taking over the curtain operation.

As the cousin of Wei Dongyi, the two maintain close contact. Calls to Wei Jingzhou are answered by Wei Dongyi right away and he typically does not hang up. The two stand about 190 cm and 185 cm tall, look alike, and both display mathematical talents. Wei Jingzhou insists on visiting his cousin in Beijing each year to maintain family bonds.

In July 2024, Wei Jingzhou publicly clarified several online rumors. On the flood-relief donation issue, he explicitly denied that Wei Dongyi donated 16 million yuan to flood relief; WeChat chat records confirm that Wei Dongyi himself was unaware of it. Regarding rumors about research projects, he debunked the false claim that “Wei Dongyi calculated the lunar-sampling trajectory” among other fabricated research achievements. Regarding rumors about his personal life, he noted that reports fabricated by media outlets, such as “Wei Dongyi already has a girlfriend,” are not true. Staff from the School of Mathematical Sciences at Peking University also denied the related rumors.

According to Wei Jingzhou, Wei Dongyi leads a simple daily life, uses a Huawei smartphone, and in his spare time gets information from radio broadcasts, not paying attention to online rumors. In response to some self-media outlets fabricating false information by exploiting Wei Dongyi’s characteristic of not liking to talk, Wei Jingzhou urged the public to respect the facts and avoid spreading misinformation.
