Li Heng, formerly known as Manmei, was born in 1952 in Nanchong City, Sichuan Province. She is the daughter of Hu Yao Bang, an early leader of the Communist Party of China, and took her mother's surname, Li, from her mother, Li Zhao. In her family, Hu Yao Bang had four children: his eldest son Hu Deping, second son Liu Hu, third son Hu Dehua, and Li Heng herself.

In 1968, Li Heng was assigned to work as a lathe operator at the Beijing Paper Mill. The following year, she proactively contacted Zheng Weishan, then the commander of the Beijing Military Region, expressing her desire to join the military, and was arranged to serve as a medical soldier at the farm hospital of Biegzhuang. She served in the military for several years, during which she expressed her hope of advancing her education through努力努力。

From the late 1970s to the early 1980s, Li Heng studied at the Medical Department of Beijing Medical College and graduated in 1980. Afterwards, she served as an editor and deputy editor-in-chief at the Chinese Internal Medicine Journal, and as deputy secretary-general of the Chinese Medical Association, while also serving as president of the Chinese Medical Association Journal. Subsequently, she worked at Beijing Foreign Enterprises Service Group Co., Ltd., and held important positions within the medical community in China.

Throughout her career, Li Heng has been actively involved in medical academic exchanges. Since 1989, she has been elected as a council member of the Chinese Medical Association and a director of the Chinese Medical Foundation. She worked in the pharmaceutical industry for about twelve years, serving as a director, and was respected as "Director Li" within the industry. Colleagues affectionately called her "Betsy." Known for her professionalism and dedication, she emphasizes meticulous management and high-quality work.

In her personal life, Li Heng maintains a low-profile and reserved demeanor. She never proactively discusses her family background or personal achievements. Beyond work, she enjoys listening to music, swimming, watching movies, and gardening, embodying the idea of maintaining a balanced life. She has made public statements to dispel rumors concerning herself and her family, clarifying that she left GlaxoSmithKline in 2007 and has had no work relationship with them since; she also stated she does not own luxury homes or have children studying in the UK.
