Wu Yaning, also known as Wu Xiao and by her English name Hiu Ng, is the granddaughter of senior CCP leader Xi Zhongxun and the niece of Xi Jinping. She is the daughter of Xi Zhongxun’s second daughter, Qi An’an (originally named Xi An’an), who has engaged in business in Australia.
Wu Yaning was educated abroad and graduated from University College London in 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in Information Management. Fluent in English, she has a strong passion for philanthropy and charitable work. According to BBC reports, she worked at former U.S. President Bill Clinton’s charitable foundation and lived in the Shunyi District of Beijing. She is also the founder of the philanthropic website 51GIVE.
In her professional career, Wu Yaning served as Content Director for Zhonglu International Interactive, a joint venture between Ningbo Netcom and the China Recording and Video Publishing Corporation, and worked as Content and Business Development Manager for United Net TV, an interactive television company. In 2008, at the Asia-Pacific Chinese Economic Annual Conference held in Beijing, she received the 'Top Ten Outstanding Chinese Cultural and Artistic Contribution Award.'
Around 2014, the 51Sim Green Initiative, led by her, was recognized as a CGI Special Contribution at the Clinton Global Initiative Asia meeting in Hong Kong. She has also been an ambassador for the China Breast Cancer Research Foundation and was one of the producers of the documentary *Women of the Revolution*.
Wu Yaning is married to British businessman Daniel Foa. Foa was born into a middle-class family in Wimbledon, London, and graduated from the University of Portsmouth before moving to China to pursue his career. He worked for IBM in Shanghai and later for Nortel Networks in Beijing starting in 2005. Around 2014, he also worked with his wife at the Clinton Foundation. Known for his unkempt appearance, he was active in Shanghai nightlife and even captained the Virgin Red Star Football Club in the city. Wu Yaning and Foa met in Shanghai, and together they have a son.
In addition, Wu Yaning and her husband run the University College London Beijing Alumni Association, where she serves as president.
