Introduction
Alice Maud Olivia Stanley, née Montagu, was born on 15 August 1862 in Westminster. She was the daughter of the 7th Duke of Manchester and Countess Louise von Alten.
On 5 January 1889, she married Lord Stanley of Bickerstaffe. Following her husband's inheritance of the earldom of Derby in 1908, she acquired the title Countess of Derby. They had three children: two sons and one daughter, all of whom she outlived.
From 1901 to 1910, Alice held the position of Lady of the Bedchamber to Queen Alexandra.
In August 1901, she participated in the christening of the battleship HMS Exmouth, which was built by Cammell Laird at Birkenhead. In April 1913, she also christened the RMS Aquitania, the largest Cunard Company steamship at the time, at Clydebank, Scotland.
Alice Maud Olivia Stanley passed away on 23 July 1957 at Coworth Park.
