Liu Hu

Liu Hu (born February 1945) was born in Shaanxi Province in February 1945. He is the second son of former General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, Hu Yaobang. He graduated from the Department of Chemical Engineering at Tsinghua University. He has held positions at Tsinghua University, the Beijing Municipal Institute of Chemical Industry, and the State Import and Export Commission, among others. He is currently an Executive Director and Deputy General Manager of China Resources Group in Hong Kong.

In the winter of 1945, Hu Yaobang and his wife entrusted their second son to Liu Shichang, a fellow villager from northern Shaanxi. Hu Yaobang insisted that the child take Liu Shichang’s surname. The villager proposed a compromise, and thus the child was named Liu Hu (Hu).
