Alexander Cameron

Allan Alexander Cameron was born on 27 August 1963 and passed away on 21 March 2023. He was an English barrister known for his legal career and notable appearances in court.

Family and Education:

Cameron was the elder son of Ian Donald Cameron (1932–2010) and Mary Fleur Mount (1934–2025). He was the brother of David Cameron, who served as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Cameron received his early education at Heatherdown School followed by Eton College. He pursued higher education at the University of Bristol, where he completed a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree. In 1986, he was called to the bar from the Inner Temple.

In 1990, Cameron married Sarah Louise Fearnley-Whittingstall, a lawyer and cousin of chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. They had two children, Imogen and Angus.

Career:

On 31 October 2013, Cameron participated in a significant moment in legal broadcasting history when footage was broadcast from the Court of Appeal of England and Wales for the first time since 1925, according to ITV. Sky News reported that he was the first barrister to appear on television while arguing a case in the Court of Appeal. This event occurred on the first day when cameras were permitted into the court after a 90-year prohibition. Cameron expressed his surprise at the development, stating, "It's surprising. I only found out yesterday it was happening." The Guardian noted that his appearance marked a historic event in the transparency of court proceedings.

In 2014, Cameron appeared pro bono for the defense in a fraud trial. The trial was halted by the judge on the grounds that the defendants lacked proper legal funding for a complex and lengthy process.

Throughout his career, Cameron took part in several high-profile cases, including leading the legal chambers that represented Rebekah Brooks in her phone hacking defense.

Health and Death:

Cameron was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2020, which led to his retirement from practicing law. He died on 21 March 2023 at the age of 59 due to the disease.
