Tang Wei

Tang Wei was born in Taiwan Province in 1954. In 1964 he began working as a script supervisor at Fuhua Company. Two years later, in 1966, he signed formally with Fuhua Company and began a career in film and acting. His early film works include Da Hu Ying Lie and Bi Xue Xi Yin Qiang. With performances in films such as Wushan Dian Dian Chou (1966), Mulian Rescues His Mother (1968), and Super Warrior (1982), he gradually established a certain level of recognition in the Taiwanese film scene.

In 1974 Tang Wei appeared in the long-running CTS television series Bao Qingtian (Justice Bao), which totaled 350 episodes and set a record for the number of episodes in a Taiwanese TV drama. He co-starred in the series with Yi Ming, Han Xiangqin, and others. In 1977 Tang Wei acted in the film Nan Xia Zhan Zhao. He also appeared in a number of other films, including The Great Con Artist (1971), Shan Shan and I (1975), and Burning the Shaolin Temple.

In his personal life, Tang Wei married actress Han Xiangqin in December 1972. He has a son and a daughter: his son Tang Zhizhong once hosted variety shows and founded a talent agency; in 2016 he was investigated on suspicion of marijuana use. Tang Zhizhong later issued a statement saying he would cooperate with judicial procedures. His daughter Tang Keshan formerly worked as a TV news anchor.

In 2009, while mourning the late actor Yi Ming, Tang Wei mentioned that during their collaboration Yi Ming often wore an ancient-style costume headpiece for long periods, which caused skin injuries, yet he persisted in filming — an indication of his dedication to his craft. In addition to his major works, Tang Wei has appeared in many other film and television productions, contributing a variety of performances to the Taiwanese entertainment industry.
