Introduction
Peng Zhen, male, born in China, is a renowned lawyer. His family members include his father Peng Zhen, mother Zhang Jieqing, and siblings Fu Rui, Fu Yan, and Fu Liang. Peng Zhen began his legal career in the late 1970s and worked from 1979 to 1987 in the Legal Work Committee of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, serving as Deputy Director of the Economic Law Office. During this period, he participated in the formulation and revision of more than 40 laws, including the Constitution, Criminal Law, General Principles of Civil Law, Law of Economic Contracts, Law of Foreign-related Economic Contracts, Company Law, Law on Sino-foreign Joint Ventures, Law on Cooperative Enterprises, Law on Foreign-invested Enterprises, Law on State-owned Industrial Enterprises, and Bankruptcy Law, among others.
In 1988, Peng Zhen founded Kangda Law Firm and served as its director until 2016, leading it to become one of the largest comprehensive law firms in China. Throughout his career, he was elected Vice President of the All China Lawyers Association multiple times, in 1995, 1999, and 2002. Academically, Peng Zhen served as a Distinguished Professor at China University of Political Science and Law, co-supervisor for master’s students at Tsinghua University Law School, and a Distinguished Professor at Nankai University Law School. He has accumulated rich research and teaching experience in related legal fields.
Peng Zhen has also served as an independent director for multiple enterprises, including Tsingtao Beer Group, Guoan Information, Air China, and China Film. Additionally, he served as an arbitrator of the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission from 1989 to 2021, was Vice President of the China Arbitration Law Research Society, and a council member of the China Maritime Law Society.
In terms of academic publications, Peng Zhen has authored works such as _Interpretation of the Law on Foreign-related Economic Contracts_, _Interpretation of the Bankruptcy Law_, and _Peng Zhen’s Thoughts on People’s Democracy in the New Era_. He also participated in drafting over twenty laws, including the Law on Foreign-related Economic Contracts, the Law of Economic Contracts, the Law on State-owned Industrial Enterprises, the Bankruptcy Law, the Mineral Resources Law, the Food Hygiene Law, the Medicine Administration Law, and the Marine Environmental Protection Law, as well as industry regulations such as national lawyer professional standards.
Peng Zhen’s academic and legal work has had a significant influence on the construction of China’s legal system. His practical and theoretical contributions across multiple legal fields have supported the development of the rule of law in China.
