Introduction
Wang Xiao’ai is the wife of Zhao Dajun, the eldest daughter-in-law of Zhao Ziyang, and the mother of Zhao Keke. She previously worked at the Guangdong Institute of Foreign Trade and Economic Research. Before the 1989 Tiananmen Square events, she lived in Guangzhou, where her daughter Zhao Keke was a primary school student and served as Young Pioneers captain. After the events of 1989, when Zhao Ziyang was placed under house arrest, the family was severely affected. Fearing political reprisals and collective punishment, Wang Xiao’ai took her daughter to temporarily stay at her younger sister’s home in Dongguan, Guangdong. In 1994, she brought her daughter to the United States, where they began living under assumed identities and faced the challenges of life abroad independently. Her daughter Zhao Keke later completed her studies in the United States, graduating from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and later from Harvard Business School.
