Introduction

Wu Shanru, born November 24, 1988, is a well-known Taiwanese television host, actress, and public figure. Her father is the famous Taiwanese variety show host Wu Zongxian, and her mother is Zhang Weiwei. As the eldest daughter, she has two younger sisters, Vivian and Olivia, and a younger brother, Wu Ruixuan.

Wu’s early life was closely tied to her family background. She grew up in Taiwan and in junior high experienced harassment by a senior student, which led her to interrupt her studies for a time. Following her father’s suggestion, she went to the United States to study at age 14. She attended the University of Washington, where by her sophomore year she had finished all senior-year credits and graduated early in June 2012. After graduating, she returned to Taiwan to work as an English teacher at Guangfu Junior High School and also tutored for English exams such as TOEIC, GEPT, TOEFL, and the SAT, with a strength in creative writing.

Her entertainment career began in July 2013, when she became the host of the online program “Yahoo! Entertainment Blast.” She gradually entered the broader entertainment industry and on June 2, 2014, appeared on stage with her father Wu Zongxian for the first time to host the Dongfeng TV interview show “Chengcai Celebrity Hall.” She has co-hosted several variety shows including “Little Stars, Big Follow” (Xiao Mingxing Da Genban), “Popcorn Cinema,” and “Word Value Battle,” among others. From 2016 onward, while hosting programs on multiple TV platforms, she also took part in various variety shows, films, and television dramas. For example, she starred in the 2018 action-comedy film “Loser Heroes Alliance” and appeared in the 2019 TV drama “A Man Marries, A Woman Weds” (Nan Hun Nu Jia).

Wu has received several industry awards, including the 2016 award for Best Variety Show Host at the 51st Golden Bell Awards, the 2019 award for Best Host in an Educational and Reality Program at the 54th Golden Bell Awards, and the same category at the 55th Golden Bell Awards in 2020. She has also participated in public welfare activities, serving as a volunteer lecturer at schools in remote areas of Yilan County.

In her personal life, Wu held a wedding with her fiance in 2022 and announced her pregnancy that same year. She gave birth to a son in 2023, named Mason (nicknamed “小初一”), and welcomed a second child in 2024. She was reported to have tested positive for COVID-19 in 2022 and subsequently recovered.

Known for her professional hosting skills, fresh and bright image, and diverse body of work, Wu Shanru has become an important figure in Taiwan’s entertainment industry. Her performances on multiple variety programs have attracted attention and earned her a solid reputation in the field.
