Eva Primrose, Countess Of Rosebery

Eva Isabel Marion Primrose, Countess of Rosebery and Midlothian (née Bruce), was born on 17 June 1892. She was the daughter of Henry Bruce, 2nd Baron Aberdare, and his wife, Constance. She passed away on 29 January 1987 at the age of 94.

Her first marriage was to Algernon Strutt, 3rd Baron Belper, on 26 April 1911. The marriage took place at St. Margaret's, Westminster. The couple produced three children before their divorce in 1922. Their children were Alexander Ronald George, who later became the 4th Baron Belper (1912–1999); Hon. Michael Strutt (1914–1942); and Hon. Lavinia Mary Strutt (1916–1995).

In 1924, she married Harry Primrose, 6th Earl of Rosebery. Their marriage occurred on 24 June 1924. The couple had two children: Neil Archibald Primrose, who later became the 7th Earl of Rosebery (1929–2024), and Lady Mary Primrose, who was born and died in 1935. Lady Mary Primrose died at birth. Her son Neil Archibald succeeded as the 7th Earl of Rosebery.

Eva Primrose was the mother-in-law of Bernard Fitzalan-Howard, 16th Duke of Norfolk, through her daughter Lavinia Strutt, who married him in 1937.

In her public service, Eva Primrose held the position of Justice of the Peace (JP) for Buckinghamshire. She was honored as a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in 1955. She received an honorary Doctor of Laws (LL.D) degree from the University of Edinburgh in 1957. Additionally, she was awarded the Chevalier of the Legion of Honour, a French decoration.
