Shigeko Oohira (born November 20, 1916, Taisho 5) – May 31, 1990, Heisei 2) – was a Japanese politician and the wife of Masayoshi Oohira. She was born in Tokyo Prefecture.

Career

Shigeko Oohira was the second daughter of Sukekichi Suzuki, the founder of Miki Securities. She graduated from the Oin Girls' School.

Marriage and Activities

On April 15, 1937 (Showa 12), she married Masayoshi Oohira through an arranged meeting. At that time, Masayoshi Oohira had just joined the Ministry of Finance. The couple, both Christians, shared their faith.

Journey as a Politician

In 1952 (Showa 27), her husband Masayoshi Oohira was elected to the House of Representatives, making her the wife of a parliamentarian.

Activities as Prime Minister

On December 7, 1978 (Showa 53), Masayoshi Oohira became Prime Minister, and Shigeko participated in public activities as First Lady.

Death

Her husband Masayoshi Oohira died suddenly during his tenure as Prime Minister on June 12, 1980 (Showa 55). Shigeko became a widow.

She passed away on May 31, 1990, due to respiratory failure.
