Introduction

Michio Hatoyama (March 31, 1911 – April 9, 1993) was a Japanese researcher in electronic engineering. His father was Hideo Hatoyama, making him a grandson of Daisaku Kikuchi. His wife Reiko was the second daughter of politician Ichirō Hatoyama. Their children include Akira Hatoyama, and their grandchild is Reito Hatoyama.

### Life and Career

After graduating from the Department of Physics at the University of Tokyo (Imperial Tokyo University), he joined the RIKEN Institute of Physical and Chemical Research as a research student and later served as an assistant. His initial research focused on atomic physics. During World War II, he was involved in the development of radio wave weapons at the Naval Technical Research Institute. After the war, he engaged in semiconductor-related research at the Electrical Test Laboratory, including studies on silicon carbide in the 1950s.

He served as president of the Physical Society of Japan from 1960 to 1961. In 1965, he became a director at Sony Corporation. Subsequently, in 1974, he was appointed the first president of Shonan Junior College.
