Introduction

Consort Kang Shun, also known as Consort Pan, was born in 1464 in Qingtian County, Chuzhou Prefecture, Zhejiang, and died on September 12, 1538. Her father was Pan Xiongzhi, and her mother was Lady Guo. Born in May of the eighth year of the Tianshun era (1464), she was selected for the inner court in the sixth year of the Chenghua era (1470), where she received court instruction. She was gentle, virtuous, and highly favored by Emperor Xiaozong of Ming, Zhu Jianshen. In the twenty-first year of Chenghua (1486), she bore the tenth son of the emperor, Prince Rongzhuang Zhu Youshu. In 1487, she was bestowed the title of Consort. That same year, a ceremony was held to grant her the title of consort, and several other consorts and noble ladies were also appointed, including the Consorts Gui, De, Hui, and Li. In the tenth year of Jiajing (1531), she was designated as the empress's successor and married to Lady Pan of Jingning. She passed away in the seventeenth year of Jiajing (1538) at the age of 75. According to imperial decree, her coffin was moved from Xuánwǔmén to Xī'ānmén. Emperor Jiajing expressed his condolence upon her death and posthumously named her "Kang Shun." The following year, she was officially buried at Jinshan Pass. According to the "Taichang Continuation," Consort Pan was buried alongside other consorts at Jinshan Pass; her tomb and burial circumstances are similar to those of six other consorts, but her specific identity and burial status remain unclear.
