Hu Ying-chen

Hu Yingzhen, born in 1980, is a Taiwanese actress, host and public figure. Her father is the well-known entertainer Hu Gua and her mother is Xiuxiu. Hu Yingzhen grew up in the family, but because her father was busy with his entertainment career during her childhood she was mainly raised by her grandmother. The first time she saw her father was on television, when her grandmother pointed him out and told her that person was her dad. As her parents’ careers developed, the family moved to Taipei when she was about five or six and bought a new home, so her childhood was marked by the hustle of show business.

Her upbringing involved missing her grandmother and navigating complex family relationships. During junior high she boarded at school, and after completing her second year of junior high she went to study in Switzerland. While studying abroad, Hu Yingzhen faced loneliness and homesickness and frequently called her parents, using those calls as an important emotional support. She tried to show independence during her time overseas but also experienced cultural and family differences.

On the family front, her parents divorced after she reached adulthood, an event that affected her views on relationships. She has shown her familial affection by cooking at family gatherings—preparing birthday meals for her father—and by displaying strong family feelings at weddings. In 2007 she registered her marriage in the United States to Li Jinliang; the couple later had a daughter. A celebratory wedding banquet held in Taiwan was carefully arranged by Hu Gua and his family and included a father–daughter dance and many well-wishes from relatives and friends.

Her marriage lasted several years but, according to reports, the couple officially divorced in 2025. In her acting career Hu Yingzhen has appeared in a number of TV dramas, including Love Maid (爱情女仆) and The Fierce Wife (犀利人妻), and has hosted programs such as Shú Nǚ Bù Mǎn Zú (熟女不满族). Her public image has come to be associated with professionalism and a variety of roles.
