Introduction

Daniel Quincy was born in 1651 and died in 1690. He was trained as a silversmith under John Hull, who was his uncle by marriage, through Judith Quincy Hull. Daniel resided with John Hull and Judith Hull from the age of seven and received his training at the Hull and Sanderson mint located on Summer Street in Boston. His work primarily involved the production of the pine tree shilling, a notable coinage of the period.

John Hull regarded Daniel Quincy with familiarity and treated him as if he were his own son. Daniel married Ann Quincy, and their marriage was officiated by John Hull Esq.

Col. Edmund Quincy II, the brother of Mrs. Judith Hull, was associated with Braintree, where he was a member of the local church. Edmund Quincy II's first wife was Joanna Hoar, who was the sister of Leonard Hoar. Leonard Hoar arrived from England in 1672 and served for a time as an assistant to Thomas Thacher at the Old South Church. He was subsequently elected President of Harvard College and was an alumnus of that institution, having graduated in 1650.

In the same year, Joanna Hoar, the wife of Col. Edmund Quincy II, gave birth to Daniel Quincy. Following her death in 1650, her husband later remarried Elizabeth Gookin.

Daniel Quincy was the grandfather of Elizabeth Quincy Smith and the great grandfather of Abigail Smith Adams, who served as the second First Lady of the United States and the first Second Lady. Abigail Smith Adams was born on December 17, 1721, in Braintree, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Colonel John Quincy, who was born on July 21, 1689, and died on July 13, 1767. Colonel John Quincy was an American soldier, politician, and a member of the prominent Quincy family, known for its political influence.

Daniel Quincy is interred in Hull's Tomb, as referenced in the Diary of John Hull and the Hull's Family records.
