Lucius Junius Polk (1802–1870) was an American politician and planter in Tennessee.
**Early Life**
He was born in 1802 in Raleigh, North Carolina. His father was Colonel William Polk. In 1823, he relocated to Maury County, Tennessee.
**Career**
Polk served in the Tennessee State Senate from 1831 to 1833. He held the position of Adjutant General for Tennessee from 1851 to 1853. As a plantation owner, he was involved in cotton cultivation and owned slaves; records indicate he owned 30 slaves in 1836 and 52 in 1840. He was also affiliated with the Knights Templar.
**Personal Life**
In April 1832, Polk married Mary Ann Eastin, a grand-niece of Rachel Jackson, the wife of President Andrew Jackson. The wedding ceremony was held at the White House in Washington, D.C. The couple resided at Hamilton Place near Columbia, Tennessee, and they had a large family. After the death of Mary Ann Polk, he married Frances Anne Erwin, with whom he had an additional son and daughter. Frances Polk died in her 30s.
**Death**
Lucius Junius Polk died in 1870 and was buried on the grounds of St. John's Episcopal Church.
