Introduction

Michael Wentworth Beaumont was born on 8 February 1903, the son of Hubert George Beaumont and Elisa Mercedes Grace. His maternal grandfather was Michael P. Grace, and his paternal grandfather was the 1st Baron Allendale. Beaumont was educated at Eton College in Berkshire and Oundle School in Northamptonshire. He furthered his military education at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, in Berkshire.

Beaumont's military service began with the Coldstream Guards, where he held the rank of second lieutenant. He resigned his commission on 29 October 1924. Subsequently, he was promoted to lieutenant while in the Coldstream Guards reserve of officers on 29 October 1926. He served in the 90th Field Brigade, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire Yeomanry, Royal Artillery, a part-time unit. On 4 July 1939, he was promoted to major. Due to health reasons, Beaumont relinquished his military commission on 13 January 1940. He was awarded the Efficiency Decoration on 19 August 1943 and held the Territorial Decoration, which allowed him to use the post-nominal letters 'TD'.

Beaumont's political career included serving as Justice of the Peace for Buckinghamshire from 1927 to 1947. He was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Aylesbury in the 1929 general election and retained this seat after the 1935 general election until his resignation from the House of Commons on 2 May 1938. During the early 1930s, specifically 1931 and 1932, he served as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education. In 1938, he was appointed deputy lieutenant of Buckinghamshire.

In his private life, Beaumont married twice. His first marriage was to Faith Pease, daughter of the 1st Baron Gainford, on 29 February 1924. His second marriage was to Doreen Christian Davis-Goff, daughter of Sir Herbert Davis-Goff, 2nd Baronet, on 30 December 1935. He had one son, Timothy Beaumont, with his first wife. In 1928, Beaumont purchased Dorton House in Buckinghamshire from the Aubrey Fletcher estate, and he owned the property until 1939, when it was sold to the Royal London School for the Blind.

He was actively involved in fox hunting, serving as Master of Foxhounds for the Bicester and Warden Hill Hunt between 1945 and 1947, and for Kildare from 1953 to 1959. Michael Wentworth Beaumont passed away on 19 December 1958.
