Hu Jiguiang (James Hu) is of Han ethnicity, born in China. His family members include his grandfather Hu Yaobang, his father Hu Deping, and his sister Hu Zhizhi. He has achieved notable accomplishments in both academia and his professional career.

Hu Jiguiang holds dual bachelor's degrees from Yale University in History and Economics. He also earned a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from Yale Law School. His academic focus includes the U.S. civil litigation system, comparative civil and commercial law, tort law, and the American legal system.

Additionally, Hu Jiguiang serves as an associate professor at the China University of Political Science and Law School of Chinese-American Law, where he teaches courses on American civil procedure, tort law, and contract law. Prior to this, he worked at Citibank’s China Investment Banking Division as a General Manager, and later transferred to BofA Securities, where he is currently a Managing Director and head of the China Investment Banking Department.
