Introduction

Luo Bejie, born in October 1949, is a renowned cardiovascular disease expert within China's People's Liberation Army medical system. She was born into a revolutionary family and is the third daughter of Marshal Luo Ronghua and Lin Yueqin. Her educational background began at the Medical Department of the First Military Medical University. After graduating in 1972, she was assigned to Beijing 304 Hospital (now the First Affiliated Hospital of the Chinese People's Liberation Army General Hospital) to engage in clinical work.

In terms of career development, Luo Bejie was selected in 1979 as a technical backbone and went to Canada for a one-year advanced medical training, systematically studying cardiovascular diagnosis and treatment techniques. After returning to China in the 1980s, she participated in the establishment of the cardiology department at 304 Hospital and served as its first department director. During her tenure as department head, she promoted the research and application of new cardiovascular interventional diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, completing over 1,500 cardiac interventions. The techniques such as coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary angioplasty developed under her team’s leadership were at an advanced level within the military, making 304 Hospital one of the first military medical institutions to perform cardiac interventional treatments.

In scientific research, Luo Bejie has published more than 30 academic papers covering diagnosis, treatment, and technological improvements for cardiovascular diseases. She has led several research projects, including “Optimization of the Interventional Diagnosis and Treatment System for Coronary Heart Disease,” which has won multiple third-class awards for scientific and technological progress from the Chinese People's Liberation Army. Since the 1990s, she has served as an editorial board member of the *Chinese Journal of Geriatric Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Diseases*, supporting academic exchanges in related fields.

Beyond medical and scientific achievements, Luo Bejie also holds social influence. As a descendant of a family of military leaders, she adheres to family traditions and perseveres. Her research achievements have been recognized multiple times within the military, and as of 2024, three catheter operation techniques she pioneered are still being promoted and applied in grassroots hospitals of the PLA.
