Introduction

Hisashi Iwasaki (August 3, 1914 – October 24, 2005) was a Japanese businessman and former advisor to Mitsubishi Motors. He was born in Niigata Prefecture, with his birthplace listed as Tokyo Prefecture (now Tokyo Metropolis).

Life

After graduating from the Mechanical Engineering Department of Kyoto Imperial University in 1937, he joined Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. He was born as the fourth son of Kōtarō Kondō and became an adopted son of the Kondō family. His marriage included marrying Atsuko, the third daughter of Shun'ya Iwaski, the founder of Asahi Glass. In doing so, he became a son-in-law to Atsuko’s widowed mother, Hachio.

Career

During his tenure at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, he worked at various facilities including Nagoya Aircraft Manufacturing, Nagoya Engine Manufacturing, Shizuoka Engine Manufacturing, and Kawasaki Equipment Manufacturing. He later transferred to the Tokyo Automobile Manufacturing Plant, where in October 1958 he became the head of the Kawasaki manufacturing division. In March 1965, he was appointed Vice Director of Kawasaki Automobile Manufacturing, and in May 1967, he was promoted to Director. Unfortunately, in the same year, he was widowed when his wife Atsuko passed away.

Subsequently, he remarried to Mutsuko, the eldest daughter of Norihiko Takatsuki.

When Mitsubishi Heavy Industries' automobile division was spun off and became Mitsubishi Motors in 1970, he was appointed as a board member of the new company in May of that year. In June, he was assigned as director of the truck division at Tokyo Automobile Manufacturing Plant. He was promoted to Executive Director in May 1973. Ultimately, he retired as an advisor in June 1979.

Other positions include serving as president of Tohoku Mitsubishi Parts Industry.

Death and Legacy

He died of pneumonia at age 91 on October 24, 2005. The location of his death is not specified, but he is buried at Tama Cemetery.

He had one son and two daughters with his first wife, Atsuko. His eldest son, Toshio, served as branch manager of Tokyo Mitsubishi Bank (now MUFG Bank), was a director at Diamond Capital (now MUFG Capital), and served as a director at Selfrey Science and an outside director at Archetype.
