Introduction
Wong Cho-lam, born October 30, 1978 in Hong Kong, is a multi-talented actor, singer, host and director. His family includes his wife Li Yanan and their daughter Wang Tianyun, as well as his sister Wang Zuhong. His distant cousin is the well-known singer Eason Chan.
Wong officially entered the entertainment industry on October 28, 1999 with the action-comedy film Sunshine Police. In 2004, he won the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor awards at the Hong Kong Drama Awards for the stage plays Jin Xiu Liang Lu and Conversations Under the Stars, respectively, and subsequently signed with Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB).
In March 2006 he appeared in the romance film Exclusive Trial of Love, and in November of the same year made an appearance in the TV drama Pearl of the Orient. In 2007 he starred in a string of TV dramas, including the period light comedy Welcoming the Bride and Blessings, the modern comedy Three’s a Crowd at the Office, the modern drama Heart of Greed and the contemporary romance Queen’s Academy. In June he starred in the police drama On Duty, in July he appeared in the costume comedy My Mother-in-Law Is Not Human, and in September he co-starred with Eric Tsang and others in the comedy film Seven Capture Seven Release Seven Color Wolves — his first leading film role.
In 2008 Wong joined Emperor Entertainment and released his first solo album Everywhere Cho-lam, while the mainland aired his police dramas The Quirky Detective and Keep the Line Open. After that he starred in the sitcom Best of P. S. (literally “Panda’s Own People”).
From 2009 to 2011 he appeared in many film and television works, such as the comedy A Short Man’s Love, the series Beauty High Definition and the variety-mystery show Super Trio Detectives. In 2010 he played Jian Zai in the comedy film 72 Tenants of Prosperity and won the Film & TV Golden Melody Award at the 7th Jade Solid Gold · Hit Songs Chart Awards for his song “Don’t Underestimate Me.”
In 2012 Wong made his first mainland television appearance on Happy Camp and starred in the comedy film The Hilarious Gladiator. After that he continued to appear in a number of films and TV series, such as The Laughing Skills Shake the Martial World, Love Makes You Taller by an Inch, and Hello Mr. Billionaire, and served as a regular cast member on the reality show Keep Running.
In 2015 he established his own studio and remained active in variety and film/television. In 2016 the comedy film From Vegas to Macau III (literal alternative title: Ace vs Ace) in which he participated was released. He has also frequently served as a regular host and team captain on variety shows, including Ace vs Ace and Keep Running.
In 2019 he directed for the first time, helming the romantic comedy Don’t Mind Me, I Love You!, and appeared in multiple gala shows. From 2020 to 2023 Wong continuously participated in New Year galas and variety programs on CCTV, Hunan TV and other platforms, sang and performed, with his work spanning film, music and stage.
In addition, Wong Cho-lam is actively involved in social welfare, participating in many charity activities and receiving several social awards and honors. He served as a committee member of the 13th Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Committee, focusing on poverty alleviation and environmental public welfare.
With his diverse talents and ever-expanding activities, Wong Cho-lam has secured a place in the Chinese-language entertainment industry; his career encompasses roles as actor, singer, host and director.
