Ellen Edith Peto, who died in 1941, was the daughter of Samuel Morton Peto, a British politician, building contractor, and railway contractor active during the 19th century. She was also the daughter of Ann Peto, who was the wife of James Alexander Campbell, a Scottish businessman and politician. James Alexander Campbell was the son of Janet Bannerman, who was the mother of Henry Campbell-Bannerman, the British Prime Minister from 1905 to 1908.
