Elijah Holmes

Elijah Holmes was born in 1754 and died in 1834. He was the father of Harriet Holmes, who was born on November 2, 1789, and died sometime after January 21, 1869. Harriet Holmes was the mother of James Henry Sheldon, who was born on January 22, 1816, and died on September 4, 1871. James Henry Sheldon was the father of Mary Cornelia Sheldon, born in 1842 in Martinsburg, New York, and who died on January 8, 1908. Mary Cornelia Sheldon was the mother of John Sheldon Doud, born on November 10, 1870, in Boone, Iowa, and died on June 20, 1951, in Denver, Colorado. John Sheldon Doud was a meatpacking executive with investments in Illinois and Iowa stockyards, retiring at age 36 after marrying Elivera Mathilda Carlson in 1890. He was the father of Mamie Eisenhower, who was First Lady of the United States from 1953 to 1961 and married Dwight D. Eisenhower, who served as President of the United States from 1953 to 1961.
