Naoki Tanaka (田中 直紀, Tanaka Naoki), born on June 19, 1940, was born as Naoki Suzuki. He is a Japanese former politician affiliated with the Democratic Party of Japan and served as a member of the House of Councillors in Japan's national legislature, the Diet, representing the Niigata Prefectural electorate.
Born in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, Tanaka graduated from Keio University. Upon marriage to Makiko Tanaka, he adopted her family name, changing from Suzuki to Tanaka.
He was first elected to Japan’s House of Representatives in 1983. After losing his seat in 1996, he successfully ran for the House of Councillors and was elected in 1998.
