Hou Shanyan

Hou Shanyan, born in Malaysia, once won third place in the Miss Malaysia beauty pageant. Her exact year of birth and detailed early education have not been disclosed.

In 1993, Hou met actor Wu Mengda while filming the movie "花田囍事" in Singapore. Three years later, in 1996, the two registered their marriage, and Hou became Wu Mengda's third wife. After marriage, she had a daughter named Wu Chuyu, born in 1996. That same year, Hou and Wu Mengda welcomed their second child, a son named Wu Weilun, who is Wu Mengda’s only son.

In the public eye, Hou accompanied Wu Mengda as a family member for many years. In April 2014, when Wu Mengda’s heart condition worsened and he was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of a Hong Kong hospital, Hou rushed from Malaysia to Hong Kong to care for him. Before Wu Mengda’s death in 2021, Hou and their son Wu Weilun stayed by his side until his final moments.

Regarding the family’s finances, Wu Mengda supported three households, including Hou and her children and the children from his first two marriages. Monthly household expenses reached as high as HK$900,000. This financial burden is considered one of the reasons Wu Mengda continued working into his later years, reflecting the weight of his family responsibilities.
