Introduction
Christopher Wandesford, 2nd Viscount Castlecomer (2 March 1684 β 23 June 1719), was an Irish nobleman and politician. He was the son of Christopher Wandesford, 1st Viscount Castlecomer. Wandesford attended Trinity College, Dublin, in 1702.
In terms of political career, Wandesford served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for St Canice in the Irish Parliament from July to September 1707. He succeeded to his father's titles on 15 September 1707, becoming the 2nd Viscount Castlecomer. On 25 April 1710, he was appointed to the Privy Council of Ireland and assumed the role of Governor of Kilkenny in 1715.
Wandesford also served in the British Parliament. In the 1710 general election, he was elected as MP for Morpeth but lost the seat in 1713. Subsequently, in the 1715 general election, he was elected as MP for Ripon, a position he held until his death in 1719. He held the position of Secretary at War during the year 1718.
He married Hon. Frances Pelham on 31 May 1715. Frances was the daughter of Thomas Pelham, 1st Baron Pelham, and Lady Grace Holles. Wandesford died at the age of 35 and was succeeded by his only child, Christopher.
