Introduction

Yiji, of the Aisin Gioro clan, was the third son of Emperor Daoguang of the Qing Dynasty. He was born on the seventh day of the eleventh month in the ninth year of Daoguang's reign (1829), corresponding to December 2, 1829, in the Gregorian calendar. His mother was Imperial Noble Consort Borjigit. Yiji was a biological brother to his half-brother Yichen, who was born to the same mother. Yiji lived for only one month after birth and died on the twenty-eighth day of the twelfth lunar month of that year, which was January 22, 1830, in the Gregorian calendar, at about one month old. The cause of death is not clearly recorded in existing historical materials. During Emperor Daoguang's reign, Yiji had not been granted any titles. After Emperor Xianfeng ascended the throne, Yichen was posthumously titled Prince Hui of the Second Rank, with the temple name Zhi. These records are documented in "Draft History of Qing" (Qing Shi Gao), Volume 221, compiled by Zhao Erxun; additional information is also provided in the "Four Genealogies of the Qing Imperial Clan."
