Introduction
Edmund Sheffield, 2nd Duke of Buckingham and Normanby, was born on 11 January 1716. He was an English nobleman, and during his early life, he was styled Marquess of Normanby from 1716 until 1721. He was a grandson of King James II through his mother, Catherine Sheffield.
He was the legitimate son of John Sheffield, 1st Duke of Buckingham and Normanby. Edmund succeeded his father as duke in 1721.
In 1732, he matriculated at Queen's College, Oxford. He died on 30 October 1735 in Rome due to consumption. He did not marry and left no children. Upon his death, the dukedom became extinct.
The family estates, including Normanby Park, were inherited by his illegitimate half brother, Charles Herbert Sheffield.
