Introduction
King Heng of Ming, Zhu Huoqiao (1502–1572), was the eldest son of Ming's King Heng Zhu Youjian. In the first year of the Jiajing era (1522), he was granted the title of King Jianghua; in the tenth year of Jiajing (1531), he was renamed Crown Prince Heng; and in the nineteenth year of Jiajing (1540), he succeeded to the throne as King Heng. He reigned for thirty-two years until his death in the sixth year of Longqing (1572), after which he was posthumously honored with the title Zhuang. Three years later, his son Zhu Zaibei succeeded him. Members of the Ming royal family frequently supervised or made their own guqin (ancient Chinese musical instrument). Zhu Huoqiao, along with Ningxian Wang Zhu Quan, Yiduan Wang Zhu Youbin, and Luming Wang Zhu Changqian, are collectively known as the "Four Colored Royal Guqin."
