Introduction
Chirui Teruhiko-son (September 18, 1873 – September 18, 1873) was the first son of Emperor Meiji. His mother was Princess Shōkō. He died on the day of his birth, and his mother passed away four days later. Due to the fact that the imperial family’s tombs were located relatively far from the Imperial Palace and required a large area, the Meiji government chose Toyoshimaoka Mausoleum as the burial site for the prince. Subsequently, Toyoshimaoka Mausoleum became the funeral and burial site for Japan’s imperial family.
