Zeng Jian

Zeng Jian, born in 1980, place of origin unknown. In his early years, he attended Zhangxing Zhicheng Middle School, then completed his high school education at Zhangxing High School. Subsequently, he studied at the Department of Cinematography at Beijing Film Academy, earning at least a bachelor's degree. During his student years, he participated in the filming of a documentary directed by Lou Ye.

His professional career began in 2006 when director Lou Ye encouraged him to try film editing during the shooting of the movie "Yangtze River Eduard." This experience sparked his interest in filmmaking, leading him to gradually venture into cinematography and editing.

In 2009, Zeng Jian collaborated with Lou Ye on the homosexual-themed film "Night and Day," serving as the director of photography and editor, which earned him a nomination for Best Editing at the 47th Taiwan Golden Horse Film Awards. Afterwards, he worked as the cinematographer and editor for director Li Yu's artistic film "Guanyin Mountain."

In 2012, he received a nomination for Best Editing at the Taiwan Golden Horse Film Awards for his work on the urban suspense film "Mystery in Floating City," a collaboration with Lou Ye. In 2014, his editing work on the film "Scraping" gained international recognition; the film won the Best Artistic Contribution Award at the 64th Berlin International Film Festival. He also won the Best Cinematography Award at the 51st Taiwan Golden Horse Film Awards and was nominated for the Best Cinematography Award at the 8th Asia Pacific Film Awards.

In 2015, he earned the Best Cinematography Award at the China Golden Eagle Film Industry Award for his work on the film "Tibetan Sky." In May 2018, he served as a juror for the 21st Shanghai International Film Festival Asian Newcomers Award. During the same period, he participated in the shooting of the comedy film "Everybody's Gone to War," which was released in August 2018.

In 2021, Zeng Jian served as the director of photography for the female suspense film "The River of Reality," which held a production announcement in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province. In June of the same year, he became a mentor and advisor for the 15th FIRST Training Camp. In October, the film "Lanxin Grand Theater," which he co-directed, was released nationwide. In 2022, he was the director of photography for the film "Broken Bridge," which was released in mainland China.

Regarding his personal life, Zeng Jian married Mei Ting in Hong Kong at the end of 2012; the couple met during the filming of "Tui Na." On September 27, 2013, they welcomed their daughter in Hong Kong. In September 2015, they had their second child, a son nicknamed Yang Yang, also in Hong Kong.
