Introduction
Charles James Stuart-Wortley was born on 3 June 1802. He was a British politician and the second son of James Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie, 1st Baron Wharncliffe.
In 1832, Stuart-Wortley participated as an observer during the French siege of Antwerp and subsequently authored an account of the event.
On 17 February 1831, he married Lady Emmeline Manners, who died in 1855. Lady Emmeline was the daughter of John Manners, the 5th Duke of Rutland. The couple had three children:
- Archibald Henry Plantagenet Stuart-Wortley, born on 26 July 1832 and died on 30 April 1890. He married Lavinia Rebecca Gibbins on 15 June 1879, who died in 1937.
- Adelbert William John Stuart-Wortley, who died in 1847.
- Victoria Alexandrina Stuart-Wortley, who died on 29 March 1912. She married Sir William Earle Welby-Gregory, 4th Baronet, on 4 July 1863.
Charles James Stuart-Wortley's death occurred in 1844 and was attributed to the effects of a hunting accident suffered earlier in his life.
His political and personal life is documented in various historical sources, including Leigh Rayment's list of Members of Parliament.
