Introduction

Demuchukzhab (Mongolian: ᠳᠡᠮᠴᠣᠭᠵᠠᠪ; 19th century – 1865), also translated as Demuchukzhab, of the Borjigin clan, a native of Naiman Banner in Zhaowuda League (now part of Tongliao City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region). He later served as the Zasag Darhan Prince and was a Mongolian prince and a secondary consort during the Qing Dynasty. He was born during the Daoguang era; his father was the Naiman Zasag Darhan Prince Awuanduowadi Zhab.

His life details are as follows: As a first-class Talji, he was appointed to marry the fourth daughter of Emperor Daoguang, Shou An Gullen Princess in February of the 21st year of Daoguang (1841), and they were married in October. In the third month of the 23rd year of Daoguang, he was granted a purple reins; in September of the 28th year, he succeeded as the Zasag Darhan Prince of Naiman Banner; in November of the 30th year, he was appointed as a Grand Master of the Court. In the first year of Xianfeng (1851), he was granted a yellow reins; in October, he was appointed as the Mongolian Commander of the Plain White Banner. In the 10th year of Xianfeng (1861), he was granted a princely supplementary attire. Later, in the first month of the 4th year of Tongzhi (1865), he requested leave for illness and to return to his fief, returning to Naiman Banner, and passed away in June. After his death, he was posthumously promoted to the rank of Shangqinwang (Extended Prince) and was given a funeral following the standards for a prince.

Regarding his marriage relations, available information indicates that he was connected to the Qing imperial family through marriage, specifically by marrying Princess Shou An Gullen, which conferred him the status of an secondary consort (Efu). His life records primarily focus on official matters such as his titles, appointments, court adornments, robes, and posthumous honors and funeral rituals. The area of Naiman Banner belongs to Zhaowuda League, located in present-day Tongliao City, Inner Mongolia. His changing titles and ranks reflect the system of Qing imperial regulation, demonstrating the status and responsibilities of Mongolian princes within the Qing political hierarchy.

In summary, Demuchukzhab was a Borjigin of Naiman Banner in Zhaowuda League, with his life centered around marriage, noble titles, official appointments, and posthumous rites. He held positions including Zasag Darhan Prince of Naiman Banner, Grand Court Minister, Mongolian Commander of the Plain White Banner, and a prince's supplementary attire, and he was honored with a posthumous promotion and funeral according to princely standards.
