Introduction

Li Si, born in 1988, is the daughter of Li Lianjie and Huang Qiuyan. In the year she was born, her parents together went to Los Angeles, USA to pursue their careers, and Li Si thus obtained U.S. citizenship. In 1991, after her parents divorced, she was sent to Beijing and raised by Li Lianjie’s mother, Zhang Fenglian. Li Si’s younger sister is named Li Taimi; she is one year younger, and both sisters also hold U.S. citizenship.

After the divorce, custody of Li Si and Li Taimi was awarded to Huang Qiuyan, but due to professional reasons the mother and daughters were sent back to Beijing and cared for by their grandmother Zhang Fenglian. Zhang Fenglian was an important figure in the family and is described as kind and well-regarded by neighbors. Despite ongoing family upheaval, Li Lianjie and Huang Qiuyan maintained a good relationship; Huang Qiuyan addressed Zhang Fenglian as “mother,” and no hostility arose between them because of the divorce.

At the peak of his career, Li Lianjie became a well-known Hong Kong actor, and the failure of his marriage attracted public attention. To protect his daughters from harm, he concealed the fact of the divorce and even personally wrote letters to comfort them. In 1999 Li Lianjie remarried Li Zhi and attempted to repair his relationship with his daughters. He sent Li Si and Li Taimi to study in the United States so they could live and grow up abroad. Li Lianjie frequently flew to Beijing to keep in touch with his daughters, attended parent-teacher meetings, and worked to make up for family ruptures.

As she grew up, Li Si in 2013 auditioned for the sister group SNH48 and gradually entered the entertainment industry. Her father supported her plans to work in show business and did not interfere. Her sister Li Taimi has likewise been regarded as her companion. In 2025 Li Lianjie posted photos of his daughters’ college graduation on social media, saying that all four daughters had completed their studies and that he felt very gratified.

Regarding family relations, Li Lianjie has publicly spoken about the difficulties the divorce caused in the family, including issues in his relationships with his daughters—especially with his eldest, Li Si—which drew media and public attention. Li Lianjie has said that, over time, he learned to accept and face the changes within his family and hoped family members would understand and tolerate one another. In 2023 he discussed his daughters’ feelings on a program, highlighting the complexity and diversity of their family relationships.
