Introduction
Roger David Marquis, 2nd Earl of Woolton (born 16 July 1922, died 7 January 1969), was a British hereditary peer. He was known by the courtesy title Viscount Walberton from 1956 to 1964 and as the Honorable Roger Marquis from 1939 to 1956.
Early Life and Education:
He was the son of Frederick Marquis, 1st Earl of Woolton, and his wife, Maud (née Smith). Woolton received his education at Rugby School and subsequently attended Trinity College, Cambridge. He graduated from Trinity College in 1943 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. During the Second World War, he served in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, attaining the rank of Flight Lieutenant.
Marriages and Children:
On 9 November 1946, Woolton married the Honorable Lucia Edith Lawson, daughter of Edward Lawson, 4th Baron Burnham. This marriage ended in divorce in 1953, and the couple had no children.
In 1957, he married (Cecily) Josephine Gordon-Cumming (1925–2012), who was the elder daughter of Major Sir Alexander Penrose Gordon-Cumming of Altyre, 5th Baronet. They had two children:
- Simon Frederick Marquis, who became the 3rd Earl of Woolton, born on 24 May 1958.
- Lady Alexandra Susan Marquis, born on 12 January 1961.
Death:
Lord Woolton died in 1969 at the age of 46. He was succeeded in his titles by his only son, Simon.

Following Lord Woolton's death, Lady Woolton married John Archibald Harford Williamson, 3rd Baron Forres, on 22 September 1969. The marriage ended in divorce in 1974. In 1982, she married thirdly Owen Lloyd George, 3rd Earl Lloyd-Georgia of Dwyfor (1924–2010), as his second wife.
