Introduction
Zhang Luan, courtesy name Mou, was born in the middle period of the Ming Dynasty. He was from Xingji County, Cang County, Cangzhou Province, Hebei Province. His birth and death years are unknown, but he died in 1492. He was a maternal relative of the Ming Dynasty, the maternal grandfather of Emperor Wuzong. His grandfather was Zhang Di, and his father was Zhang Shou. His wife, Lady Jin, was the wife of Prince Changguo. Zhang Luan's daughter became Empress Xiaozong of Ming, the mother of Emperor Zhu Houzhao.
Zhang Luan entered official service as a xiucai (commended scholar). Although he held a high position, he still maintained respect for scholars and officials. In the fourth year of Hongzhi (1491), he was granted the title of Prince Shouning; in the fifth year of Hongzhi (1492), he was promoted to Marquis of Shouning. He died in August of the same year, posthumously titled Zhuang Su, and was granted the additional title of Prince Changguo. His eldest son, Zhang Heling, inherited the title, and his second son, Zhang Yanling, became Marquis of Jianchang.
