Introduction

Ning Fei was born in 1627 or 1628 and died in 1645 or 1646. She was a consort of Zhu Ciling, the crown prince of the Ming Dynasty Emperor Chongzhen. Her father was Ning Hong. In the seventeenth year of Chongzhen (1644), Emperor Chongzhen of the Ming Dynasty hanged himself at Coal Hill, and Li Zicheng captured Beijing. Zhu Ciling was taken prisoner by Li Zicheng, who bestowed upon him the title of Prince of Song and led him to attack Shanhaiguan and invade Wu Sangui. After Li Zicheng’s defeat, Zhu Ciling was sent to Wu Sangui. When the Qing army entered Beijing, Wu Sangui initially planned to enthrone Zhu Ciling as the Ming Emperor, but this was rejected by the regent Dorgon. Wu Sangui later took Zhu Ciling to Shanxi, where he died in Ningjiawan, Shaanxi. Ning Fei died one or two years later at the age of nineteen.
