Li Xi (born October 1956) is a Chinese politician from Liangdang, Gansu Province. He is currently a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), holding full state leader rank.
He began working in 1975 and joined the CPC in 1982. Li graduated from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature at Northwest Normal University and later earned an EMBA from Tsinghua University’s School of Economics and Management.
Li Xi spent much of his early career in Gansu, serving in the Provincial Propaganda Department, the General Office of the Provincial Party Committee, and the Organization Department. He later held posts as Party Secretary of Xigu District in Lanzhou, Deputy Party Secretary of Lanzhou, and Party Secretary of Zhangye. In 2004, he was transferred to Shaanxi as a member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee and Secretary-General, later becoming Party Secretary of Yan’an. In 2011, he was appointed to Shanghai, serving as head of the Organization Department and then Deputy Party Secretary, while also acting as First Vice President of the China Executive Leadership Academy in Pudong. In 2014, he became Governor and later Party Secretary of Liaoning. In 2017, he entered the CPC Central Political Bureau and became Party Secretary of Guangdong.
In October 2022, Li Xi was elevated to the CPC Politburo Standing Committee and succeeded Zhao Leji as Secretary of the CCDI, overseeing discipline inspection and anti-corruption efforts at the highest level.
Due to his Gansu origins and early ties to Li Ziqi, a former subordinate and fellow native of Xi Zhongxun (Xi Jinping’s father), Li Xi is considered close to Xi Jinping, often accompanying Li Ziqi to visit Xi Zhongxun. Some analysts regard him as a trusted ally of Xi, while others suggest he maintains relative independence within Party factions.
