Koo Jun-yeop and Kang Won-rae were classmates at Gyeonggi High School. They gained some fame in the dance industry early on and entered the entertainment circle after graduation. In 1990, the two served as backup dancers for singer Hyun Jin-young and formed the group "Hyun Jin-young and Waa Waa," but they were replaced by new members in 1991. Koo Jun-yeop subsequently enlisted in the military in 1991. After completing his service, he briefly teamed up with singer Lee Chak. In 1996, discovered by Kim Chang-hwan, the two formed the group Koo-Ryong (Cool Dragon) and officially debuted with the song "Kungtari Shabara," winning multiple music awards. Their second album, "One More Time," released in 1997, focused on melody and introduced electronic rock, earning them the Golden Record Award. Their third album, "Funky Together," released in 1999, was also a great success and received recognition from the Minister of Culture.

In 2000, the group paused activities due to Kang Won-rae's car accident. During this period, Koo Jun-yeop began to develop his solo career, participating in TV dramas and releasing solo albums. In 2004, Cool Dragon released their fifth album, with the cover showing Kang Won-rae in a wheelchair. The group paused activities again in 2006 due to another accident, and Koo Jun-yeop pursued a solo career under the stage name DJ Koo, officially debuting in 2008. Since then, he has released several EPs and singles and appeared on various variety shows.

In 2017, Cool Dragon celebrated their 20th anniversary with a commemorative album. In 2018, they performed at the opening ceremony of the Pyeongchang Winter Paralympics. In 2019, Koo Jun-yeop married Xu Xiyuan (Big S). Sadly, Big S passed away in 2025 due to illness, and Koo Jun-yeop was deeply affected by his loss.

As an artist, Koo Jun-yeop incorporates Korean-style dance into his music, boasts excellent dance and rap skills, and produces energetic and sunny works.
