Introduction
Isaac Clinton Collins was born in Lowville, New York, on January 2, 1824. He was the son of Ela Collins and Maria Collins, with his mother's father being Reverend Isaac Clinton. Collins graduated from Yale College in 1846.
Following his graduation, he studied law in New York for a year. In 1848, he moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where he was admitted to the bar in 1849. He engaged in legal practice in Cincinnati, maintaining a successful career until his death, with the exception of two years during which he served as a Judge of the Court of Common Pleas.
In addition to his judicial career, Collins served a two-year term as a member of the Ohio Legislature. He was active in political affairs within the Democratic Party.
Isaac Clinton Collins married Emily H. Ruth, who was formerly from Baltimore, on February 3, 1852. They had six children together. Collins died suddenly at his residence in Cincinnati on July 30, 1879, at the age of 55. The cause of death was heart disease.
