Xu Xiangao (date of birth unknown – January 1, 2019) was a rural resident in China. He was born in Jutai Gang Village, Gaoxian Township, Taikang County, Zhoukou City, Henan Province, with his ancestral origin from Xujiayi (the surname Xu). Xu Xiangao had a rich life experience; he enlisted during the Anti-Japanese War and joined the Chinese Communist Party at the age of 16. In the same year, 1938, he joined the People's Liberation Army, becoming a company commander of a cavalry unit.
After the end of the War of Resistance, in 1946, Xu Xiangao was demobilized due to war injuries and returned to his hometown to farm. In the village, he served as a warehouse manager, primarily responsible for safeguarding public supplies, managing keys, and bookkeeping. He was diligent and responsible in his work, earning the trust of the villagers. Xu Xiangao was known for his straightforward and just character, with extensive combat experience and multiple meritorious deeds in battles.
In 1951, the central government awarded Xu Xiangao a Mao Badge to recognize his contributions during the revolutionary war. In terms of personal life, his wife died of septicemia when their son, Xu Jiayin, was just 8 months old. At that time, the family faced economic difficulties and could not afford timely medical treatment. Xu Xiangao had children, including his son-in-law Ding Yumei, adopted son Xu Jiaqin, and grandchildren Xu Zhijian and Xu Tenghe.
Xu Xiangao's life was also shaped by his family background and revolutionary experiences. His family members and relatives included: Xu Jiayin, his son; Ding Yumei, his daughter-in-law; Xu Jiaqin, his adopted son; and grandchildren Xu Zhijian and Xu Tenghe. His life reflected devotion to his country and family.
Xu Xiangao passed away on January 1, 2019. His funeral was arranged by his brother, Xu Jiaqin, and Xu Jiayin did not attend the funeral. According to the village, after his death, he was regarded as a respected ordinary hero among the villagers. His life story demonstrates the奋斗xty of a common peasant boy and his loyal spirit towards the nation.
