Ruan Xiulian is the mother of Li Qiang, Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China and member of the CCP Politburo Standing Committee. She was born in Mayu Town, Rui’an, Zhejiang Province.
Ruan Xiulian came from an ordinary working-class background. In her youth, she made a living by selling pork, relying on hard work and resilience to support her family. Known for her simplicity and determination, she placed strong emphasis on the upbringing and education of her children. Within the household, she not only bore the main economic responsibilities but also set an example of thrift and diligence.
In July 1959, she gave birth to her son Li Qiang at her maternal family’s home. Li Qiang grew up surrounded by the care of his maternal grandparents and completed his primary and secondary education in Mayu Town. Ruan Xiulian’s dedication and perseverance provided a solid foundation for her son’s later success in academics and politics.
Though she remains largely absent from public records, Ruan Xiulian’s role as a hardworking and devoted mother deeply shaped Li Qiang’s values and development. She represents the quiet strength and sacrifice of countless ordinary Chinese mothers whose contributions underpin the achievements of their families.
