Rong Jiren was the sixth son of the renowned Chinese industrialist Rong Desheng, a member of the influential Rong family of Wuxi, which played a leading role in China’s textile and flour industries and was known as the 'Red Capitalists.'
In 1948, Rong Jiren was tasked with overseeing the reconstruction of the Maoxin Flour Mill No. 1. At that time, China was plagued by soaring prices, severe inflation, and economic instability. The immense financial and operational pressures left him physically and mentally exhausted.
Despite his dedication and efforts to sustain the family enterprise, Rong Jiren could not withstand the overwhelming burden. That same year, in despair, he took his own life with a gun. His death was a devastating blow to his father, Rong Desheng, who also lost another son, Rong Yixin (Yiren), in a plane crash that year.
Rong Jiren’s tragic end not only marked a personal and family catastrophe but also underscored the immense pressures faced by industrialists during one of the most turbulent periods in modern Chinese history.
