Xie Feiyu is the husband of Sun Shiyan (formerly known as Sun Wei), a suspect in the Zhu Ling poisoning case. On January 19, 2024, The Australian published a full-page article titled 'Investor linked to China poisoning discovered in NSW coastal town,' highlighting Sun Shiyan as a central figure in the three-decade-old case that shocked millions in China.
The report revealed that Sun Shiyan and her husband, Xie Feiyu, had built a multi-million-dollar real estate investment portfolio in the coastal town of Port Stephens, New South Wales, Australia. While Sun Shiyan declined repeated interview requests, Xie Feiyu told the newspaper: 'We are just really unlucky, but we are not ready to comment on this matter yet.'
Xie Feiyu further explained that his wife’s personal details—including her phone number, email, business records, and property information—had been exposed online by amateur investigators in China who continue to pursue the Zhu Ling case. These individuals directed pressure at people with personal and business connections to Sun, urging them to cut ties and attempting to force her to return to China.
Xie Feiyu emphasized: 'I want to protect her, and as you can imagine, this is not a good situation.' When asked about the Zhu family’s unanswered questions, he responded: 'Of course, then go ahead and write their story.' He added: 'We have to protect ourselves.'
As the husband of Sun Shiyan, Xie Feiyu has drawn public attention not only for his real estate investments in Australia but also for being caught in the controversy surrounding one of China’s most infamous unresolved poisoning cases.
