Introduction

Francis Donald Nixon was born on November 23, 1914, and died on June 27, 1987. He was a younger brother of Richard Nixon, the 37th President of the United States. Donald Nixon was the third of five siblings in the Nixon family. His older brothers were Harold Nixon (June 1, 1909 – March 7, 1933) and Richard Nixon (January 9, 1913 – April 22, 1994). His younger brothers included Arthur Nixon (May 26, 1918 – August 10, 1925) and Edward Nixon (May 3, 1930 – February 27, 2019).

Donald Nixon married Clara Jane Lemke in 1942. Clara Lemke was born in 1920 and passed away in 2013. The couple had three children: a son named Richard C. Nixon, another son named Donald A. Nixon, and a daughter named Lawrene Mae Nixon Anfinson.

In 1957, Howard Hughes lent Donald Nixon $205,000 to provide financial assistance to his drive-in restaurant business located in Whittier, California. The restaurant ultimately filed for bankruptcy less than a year later. This financial connection drew speculation regarding its implications on Richard Nixon's political career, with some questioning whether it was a political favor. During Richard Nixon's campaigns for the presidency and for governor of California, the issue was publicly discussed, and it remained a topic of controversy.

Further allegations linked Donald Nixon to intelligence and political activities. John H. Meier, a former business advisor to Howard Hughes, reportedly used Donald Nixon to supply misinformation about political opponents, including claims that Democrats possessed damaging information on Richard Nixon's dealings with Hughes. These allegations linked to broader suspicions and conspiracy theories surrounding the Nixon presidency and the Watergate scandal.

In 1972, during Richard Nixon's presidency, there was a reported incident involving Donald Nixon Jr., the son of Donald Nixon. White House investigator Anthony Ulasewicz was sent to "rescue" Donald Nixon Jr. from a hippie commune in California. This event was publicly disclosed by columnist Jack Anderson, who detailed that Ulasewicz persuaded Donald Jr. to return home and that White House aide John Ehrlichman advised Donald Jr. to behave himself and avoid embarrassment to the President.

Additional disclosures during the Watergate investigations indicated that Charles Rebozo, a financier and associate of President Nixon, allegedly transferred or lent part of a $100,000 campaign contribution to Nixon's personal secretary and to Nixon’s brothers, Donald and Edward Nixon.

In popular media, Donald Nixon was portrayed by actor Sean Stone in the 1995 film "Nixon," directed by Oliver Stone. This portrayal reflects his role and connections within the broader context of his brother's political life.

Donald Nixon died on June 27, 1987, at the age of 72, while receiving hospital treatment for pneumonia.
